The outstanding National League rookie in August was Washington's third baseman Paco Peña.
Last month he played in 25 games and hit .329 with 4 doubles, 1 triple and 5 home runs. Peña also scored 10 times and drove in 15 runs.
So far this season Peña is hitting .249 with 14 home runs, 44 RBIs and 36 runs scored. He has 97 hits in 389 at-bats and a .309 OBP. |

The American League Rookie of the Month Award has been given to Darren van der Kooij of the Cleveland Indians.
In August he played in 26 games, recording a .307 batting average with 1 home run, 7 RBIs and 21 runs scored.
van der Kooij is hitting .285 so far this season with 34 RBIs and 81 runs scored. He has 161 hits including 8 home runs, 26 walks and .321 OBP. |

Washington starter Matt Brasseur claimed the National League Pitcher of the Month Award today with his strong performance in August.
The 23-year-old starter tossed 41 innings of solid baseball, putting up a 0.66 ERA, 52 strikeouts and a 5-0 record in 5 starts.
So far this season Brasseur has a record of 18-7 with 226 strikeouts and 54 walks in 206.1 innings and a 1.31 ERA. |
